Alternatives to Apron Sinks

There’s no doubt that apron sinks have grown in popularity over the past few years. This is partly due to their unique and traditional style but also down to the fact that they’re practical – especially now that they now can be bought with double basins. Even so, that doesn’t mean that an apron sink is right for every kitchen. Here are some of the alternatives to apron sinks that you should consider.

  1. Single bowl kitchen sink – As the name suggests, a single bowl sink has one basin which means that the bowl can be as large as possible. While they don’t have the same depth as an apron sink a single bowl sink is a good alternative if you regularly have to wash up pots and pans. They’re also a good option if you don’t have much space for a sink.
  2. Double bowl kitchen sink – Today, double bowl sinks are probably more common than single bowls because they allow more than one person to work around the sink area. It also makes washing up and cooking at the same time easier. The downside is that the basins are smaller which may be a problem when washing large dishes.
  3. Under mount kitchen sink – An under mount kitchen sink is one of the best options if you’re looking for a sink to blend in with the rest of the kitchen. For this reason they’re often used in more contemporary designs. A big advantage of an under mount kitchen sink is that they’re easy to keep clean. The plumbing is more difficult compared to an apron sink though.

Other alternatives include the triple bowl kitchen sink and the self rimming sink. All of the sinks mentioned in this article are suited to a specific purpose so you need to think about exactly what you’ll be using the sink for before buying.
